The next few months will be very busy for SIMBA project partner, Annamaria Bevivino - ENEA, who is editing not one but TWO special issues of popular journals Microorganisms and Frontiers.

The special issue of Microorganisms will focus on ‘Beneficial Microbiomes in Agriculture and Human Health: The Food Connection’. About the topic, Annamaria had this to say “The application of beneficial microbes into agriculture can contribute to providing healthy food in a sustainable manner by reducing the amount of fertilizer, pesticides and herbicides. Given the food link, microbes from vegetable-diet can also have a direct and indirect effects on human health”. As the Work Package leader for WP2, which specifically looks at the application of plant growth promoting microorganisms in agriculture, Annamaria’s work in SIMBA is dedicated to this topic.

If you are interested in contributing to this special edition of Microorganisms the deadline for manuscript submissions is the 30th of November 2021. Articles will be subject to peer review and will be published online first as soon as they have been accepted for publication.

The special issue of Frontiers will explore ‘Soil Nutrients and Soil Biota Interactions: A Pathway to Improve Soil Carbon Sequestration and Boost Land Restoration, Adaptation, and Resilience to Climate Change?’. It will highlight interactions between the main soil nutrients and soil biota to foster organic carbon sequestration in soils and finally improve food security and human wellbeing. For anyone wishing to contribute to this issue, the deadline for the submission of abstracts is 30th June 2021; manuscripts should be submitted by 27th September 2021.
