Local environmental democracy and green transitions: Mapping institutional mechanisms and political mobilisations

Geneva Graduate Institute and Indian Institute of Management Bangalore IIMB jointly hosted the international conference on, ‘Local environmental democracy and green transitions: Mapping institutional mechanisms and political mobilizations’ from 23 to 25 October 2024, in Geneva. 

As people and ecosystems face growing environmental challenges, the central role of local actors in decision-making processes is increasingly recognised. The international conference explored how institutional mechanisms and local political mobilisations shape green transitions. Among the issues discussed is the interplay between environmental democracy and the pursuit of green transitions around the world.

In the Panel 3 Policy Instruments, Anna Rita Ceddia and Ombretta Presenti presented the oral presentation entitled: “Experiences from the Italian context: empirical evidence from various participatory processes".The presentation offered the opportunity to present the following initiatives: METROFOOD-RI, Foodsafety4EU, Delisoil, ECO-READY, RECiProCo, Guardiani della Costa, Smart bay Santa Teresa, Nice, Heritage Smart Lab and ICESP  Italian Circular Economy Stakeholder Platform.
