Abstract

Total recycling in controlled fusion by magnetic confinement consists of two processes: reflection of implanted H isotopes from the first wall and re-emission due to surface recombination. D and tritium re-emission fluxes in the DEMO reactor were calculated considering the influence of first wall temperature (FWT), surface conditions and trapping in neutron-produced defects. The increase in the sticking coefficient and the reduction of FWT both reduce the recycling time, while trapping can increase the recycling time to more than double. The decrease in FWT, in turn reduces the permeation flux and inventory because of the increase in the front recombination coefficient.
