Progetto ELAPSE
Laser Welding and Repair of Superalloys
The project aims to optimize the process parameters for laser welding and repair of some selected nickel-based superalloys and subsequent heat treatment. Nickel-based superalloys are widely used in many production fields, particularly in aeronautics, aerospace, nuclear energy, and petrochemical engines, thanks to their good performance at high temperatures and good corrosion resistance. However, nickel superalloy based components are subject to damage under severe service conditions. In this scenario, high energy density (HPED) welding, especially laser (LW) welding, has been recognized as one of the most attractive repair techniques for advanced high-temperature materials due to its narrow heat-affected zone (HAZ), lower contamination and high penetration. The activity consists of both simulations and experiments.
