Abstract

To improve the resistance of Ni-based molten carbonates anodes to H2S poisoning, ceria and ceria/zirconia were added using dip coating method to form a thin layer on the anode surface. Electrochemical studies of these samples were performed in 3 cm2 fuel cells under anode atmosphere with 2, 6, 12, 24, and 48 ppm of H2S by means of Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS). Data obtained by the Nyquist plots showed that the poisoning resistance was enhanced at low coating percentages of ceria-zirconia (up to 12 ppm of H2S); effects depend on H2S concentration and the applied load.
